Zhihong Man is currently the Professor of Engineering in the School of Science, Computing Engineering Technologies at Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, Australia. His research interests are in nonlinear control, signal processing, robotics, neural networks, engineering optimization and vehicle dynamics & control. He has published more than 250 research papers in refereed international journals and refereed international conferences proceedings, and his research results have widely cited about 13400 times by the researchers from more than 30 different countries.
In this talk, a brand-new methodology to estimate unknown system parameters for a broad class of second-order linear systems with non-minimum phase is proposed by using the steady-state sinusoidal output measurements. It is shown that the input to a linear system is the linear combination of a group of sinusoids, the amplitudes of the steady state sinusoidal outputs are extracted from the system output measurements. The unknown system parameters can then be estimated in the frequency domain. The advantages of this method are two folds: (i) Only the steady-state output measurements in a fundamental period are required; (ii) The system parameters can be estimated within the finite frequency band of the steady-state output sinusoids.
